Buy one, get a friend free!!

Wednesday, December 6th, 2006

After watching a small business owner create relationships, I thought to myself  why can’t larger companies be as open to create a customer relationship with their own audience.

This establishment was probably 40′ X 20′, or close to that, with mostly canned goods, sodas, groceries, and a beef counter.  They also sell CD’s, hats, jerseys, and just about any type on candy that comes in a wrap. I was next in line to the last person cheking out of the coounter in this very small business. The clerk made the usual small talk with the person he was tending to while three of us waited patiently.  Then I heard the clerk tell the customer: ”it has been a while since I’ve seen you here, I thought you forgot about us, friends miss each other you know.”  The customer answered with a smile and said: “I had to leave for a couple of months for work…”  That’s when I realized how this business owner had survived for so long in a place with only two other super markets, and one of them beaing Walmart.

When my turn to check out came, the clerk greeted me, charged for a gallon of milk, and said: “Thanks for your visit friend, don’t wait until you run out of milk to pay me a visit, we sell food here, but friendship is free.” I smiled and said thank you.

Many small business out there don’t realize that the relationship they create is growing their customers loyalty and creating a strong brand.

Just so you know….

Thought this was kinda cool, so here is the results for Reid Givens.

What American accent do you have?
Your Result: The West

Your accent is the lowest common denominator of American speech. Unless you’re a SoCal surfer, no one thinks you have an accent. And really, you may not even be from the West at all, you could easily be from Florida or one of those big Southern cities like Dallas or Atlanta.

The Midland

Boston

North Central

The South

The Inland North

Philadelphia

Wednesday, November 8th, 2006

As i sit here working on an annual report, i wonder…. does it matter what color grey is used on the bottom of page 15, and more importantly, if people manage by the numbers and by what they think will be displayed about their work in the annual report….maybe we are missing a page.

Here is the missing page.

Would you run anything differently if this page appeared in your annual report?

Talk about ambition…

Thursday, October 26th, 2006

When I heard this story I was pleasently surprised in some ways.  The way this person came to probably the biggest Soccer club in Mexico (Chivas Guadalajara) and purchased a little more than half of the public shares of the entity.  We are talking about an organization that owns millions of dollars in not only players and coaches, but schools, country clubs, public gyms, a stadium, and a branch of the same sort in the US (Chivas USA) as well.

Anyway since this guy, Jorge Bergara, came to be the largest owner of the Organization he has set one goal in mind.  To actually make a brand of Chivas Club in the world.  somehing like Real Madrid in europe, but without focusing so much in the Stars only the brand itself.

I think it is going to take a lot of money and good strategy to pull this off.  Bergara came out of nowhere and became one of the welthiest people in Mexico.  Now he has a branch of his club in MLS and several smaller branches throughout Mexico developing players to export to other countries.  I hope to see Bergara disclosing some of his plans to the public share holders so that we can get an insight on his plans.  I want to see Bergara make a podcast or a Blog so that I get a feel for his thinking.

Tlaking about innovation. His thoughts of having Club Chivas be a brand in itself can become true if he continues to gain support from the public, and not really like a polititian more like popular brand.  He defined the brand as an organization that supports youth development for the improvemnet of the community.  It is the only soccer club in mexico that has only players from mexico playing, but further more, he uses the players that came out of their out schools throughout Mexico.  Is it something?
